Moree’s Taylor Park
Reverend the Hon. Dr GORDON MOYES:
(1) Is there ongoing controversy over the proposed usages for Moree’s Taylor Park?
(2) Is there a proposal for the sale of the property?
(3) (a) Are there any proposals for development of the property?
(b) If so, what?
(4) Is the Minister aware that the sale of the land has support amongst the local community, the local Chamber of Commerce, Grow Moree and the majority of Moree’s concillors?
(5) Will the Minister advise the Department of Lands to sell the Taylor Park property?
Hon. TONY KELLY:
(1) Ongoing discussions between the parties has raised a significant level of interest in the community.
(2) and (3) (a) and (b) The Department of Lands has been approached by Moree Plains Shire Council to consider a proposal for the development of a discount department store on the Taylor Oval site, primarily as a car park.
(4) Yes. I am aware that there is significant opposition to any sale of Taylor Oval.
(5) I have previously indicated that I believe there are a number of options available to accommodate a department store development in Moree, without the loss of Taylor Oval.
