2500 Kilometres and 2500 People
As this is the only place where my work for the Christian Democratic Party and for Rev Fred Nile’s re-election is ever mentioned, let me go over the last two weeks for you.
Beverley has driven with me as we have travelled 2,500 kilometres to address CDP public functions and the re-election of Fred Nile. We have spoken to a variety of public meetings including a speech day, radio and press interviews, luncheons and dinners, church services and public forums to well over two thousand five hundred people who have attended.
We have driven out to Orange and back, then to Lakemba, then to Grafton, Casino, Lismore, Byron Bay, Ballina, Tweed Heads, and then 900 kilometres back in order to go to Bexley and back into Sydney. I am grateful to Beverley for driving much of the way, for by changing drivers, we can keep moving.
The impressions of this trip are much the same as every other trip:
1. Everywhere I go I meet converts to Christ who introduce themselves, reminding me of the times that I had come to that community previously and had conducted evangelistic crusades, where they had made their commitment to Jesus Christ. At every one of the places mentioned above, such comments were made. It is thrilling to meet such people still in the church and serving Christ. I have conducted evangelistic crusades in over 400 Australian communities.
2. The two thousand five hundred people who attended these meetings are extremely interested in what Fred and I are doing in State Parliament and appreciative of our stand on issues. At every place I speak on different issues incorporating some local issues discovered from local papers or what residents have emailed to me. I do this also so that my wife and those co-ordinators travelling with me do not get bored with the same speech.
3. Phil Lamb has done a great job recruiting candidates and co-ordinators for every region. There were plenty of brochures and material at every centre to give to every person, including bundles of material to be distributed.
4. At every place people ask if we have younger people coming up in the Party ready to take over and able to enter Parliament. I mention some by name and people are relieved.
5. People are concerned about the state of our nation and what they can do to keep it on a Christian basis. Their greatest concerns are the drought, climate change and cloning. Although people in Sydney, especially in Lakemba, Bankstown, East Hills and the like are concerned about the influence of Muslims, those who live over the Blue Mountains and out of Sydney do not see Islamic people in their community and are not so concerned.
