Failure to silence free speech

On 27 August, I received an email from a CDP official on behalf of Rev Fred Nile which stated:

“I wish to formally advise you that the distribution of A Christian Voice in Politics eMag to any CDP constituents using the CDP NSW PHP Lists service has been suspended until further notice. You and members of your staff are not authorised to use the CDP NSW State Office communication systems as these are only to be used for authorised CDP National and/or NSW party and branch communications…Any such offence would oblige us to notify the NSW Parliamentary Clerk for their consideration and follow-up.”

1. Rev the Hon Dr Gordon Moyes AC MLC responded: “As a CDP Member of Parliament, I have the right to communicate with my constituency. According to legal advice, any attempt to block that communication with my voting constituency could be contempt of Parliament. Further, I do not appreciate such threats to my Parliamentary staff.

2. The list of subscribers to A Christian Voice in Politics, the Community, and the Church is my intellectual property, consisting of people from Wesley Mission, family and friends, supporters from the general public, and from CDP supporters who have worked in my election campaign. A considerable number have been added weekly ever since. The names and email addresses of the subscribers do not belong to the CDP and must be returned to me as the rightful owner.

3. This was a silly attempt by the rejected former Liberal Party extremists to take control of the CDP and supported by Rev Fred Nile against his own Executive. The names and addresses of my readers of A Christian Voice in Politics, the Community and the Church, and back up lists are stored in three different locations, to ensure their privacy and availability in the event of fire, spiteful computer hackers, and silly immature people who might try to curtail communication to strengthen their dictatorial politics.

4. My website, www.Gordonmoyes.com, and all of the articles contained in A Christian Voice in Politics, the Church and the Community, were chosen some years ago by the National Library of Australia, to be part of its electronic Library of material that is sent every two weeks to every major university library in the world as well as the USA Library of Congress and all Australian Public Libraries. This is because of it’s considered worth. It is impossible to censor all those copies!

5. With a new server, owned and paid for by me personally, we will continue to produce A Christian Voice in Politics, The Community and the Church, where we will honestly and fearlessly present the truth without the biased and self-serving material as produced by others intent on promoting themselves and maintaining their privileges.

6. Why not send this on to friends who can then subscribe for themselves?

7. Lest you think dirty tricks are found only in the major political parties, my webmaster, an expert with no connections with CDP, reported to me this week, “One person tried to hack into the system yesterday – as shown in the log – without success of course.” While we cannot identify the hacker whose intent it was to delete our subscribers’ names and addresses, we do know in which suburb the attempt was made, and that has given us some insight into the hacker’s identity.

8. Each week we promise to bring you truthful insights into politics, the community and the church. Thank you, and welcome to all of our new subscribers.

Rev The Hon. Dr Gordon Moyes, A.C., M.L.C.
