The “Thanks Dad” photo competition
It is time again for the Thanks Dad photo competition, which has been running annually since 2000. The purpose of the popular competition is to thank men for spending positive family time with their children, and to encourage them to do more. The competition is run by the not for profit organisation Youth Connections North Coast, funded by the Commonwealth Family Relationships Services program through FaHCSIA.
Your photograph can be of a father, grandfather, uncle, foster father, or even an older brother spending time with one or more children. The photos do not have to have been taken recently, so may be of yourself with your own father or grandfather in years past. All of these male role models appear in the inspiring and delightful photos that make up the Thanks Dad National Exhibition each year.
Entries close this year on the 25th of August, and I encourage people to consider participating in this father affirming initiative. All entries become part of the Thanks Dad National Exhibition for 2010. This is not a typical competition based strictly on artistic merit, but is looking instead for photos that capture the joy experienced by children when they are with a father figure in their lives. There is a separate competition for a photo taken by primary and secondary school age children, of a young person with their favourite older man.
The Entry Forms can be downloaded from the website at www.thanksdadphotos.org.au, where you can also see all the wonderful photos of children and fathers from previous years. You can send your entries by email to the following email address: tdpcoord@communityconnections.org.au or mail them to Thanks Dad, PO Box 1005, Lismore, NSW 2480.
