A Decade of Persecution of Falun Gong
On Wednesday 15 July, Rev Dr Gordon Moyes will be hosting a Public Forum on “A Decade of Persecution of Falun Gong 1999 to 2009”. The theme of the public forum is to address how the impact of China’s oppression affects Australia, China and the world.
Hundreds of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have been illegally arrested and detained. More than 500 have been sentenced to prison terms of up to 18 years. More than 1,000 have been forced into mental hospitals, an act condemned by the World Psychiatric Association. Over 100,000 have been illegally sent to labour camps without judicial review. There are over 3,000 confirmed deaths through police brutality and torture.
Speakers include: Dr Sev Ozdowski OAM, Human Rights Commissioner 2000-2005, will be speaking on “China’s moral and legal obligation to human rights”; Ms Jennifer Zheng, renowned author and labour camp survivor; will be speaking on “Made in China: The real cost of product export”; and Mr John Deller from the Falun Dafa Association of NSW, will be speaking on “The role of Western democracies in stopping persecution”.
