Anti Same-Sex Adoption Petition drive now on

By now most of you will have heard about the report released by the NSW Standing Committee on Law and Justice Inquiry into Same-Sex Adoption, which recommended that the law be changed to allow same-sex couples to adopt children. The committee have determined that this change will be in the best interests of the child, and furthermore they believe it will best protect children’s rights.

I absolutely do not agree with this attempt at social engineering. There is, however, an exemption from the application of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 that will be made available for the protection and integrity of all faith-based adoption agencies who do not feel they can place children with same-sex couples.

I strongly believe that these recommendations are harmful and destructive to society, and especially to children; there should be no change in the adoption laws to cater to homosexual adults. A child’s best interest – both in childhood and throughout life – is served by a traditional family unit in which the parents are bound together by marriage. Children have the fundamental right to be raised by a mother and a father.

My office has sent out petitions about this issue to every church in the wider Sydney area, and I hope you will take the time to sign it, and make sure your church returns it to Parliament House in the next few months. The more names we gather the better it will demonstrate the public opposition to such a legislative change.
