Family First Christmas membership surge
Family First in NSW was receiving Christmas cheers from residents across NSW over the holidays who became part of a large recruitment drive in support of this new NSW-based party. When Dr Gordon Moyes joined in November 2009 as the Parliamentary Leader of Family First in the NSW Legislative Assembly, the first step was to recruit 750 new members for registration purposes. “No problem” said State Director Phil Lamb, who then with State Executive member David Liptak and the State Council, devised a strategic action plan to get the party registered.
In the hardest time of the year when Australians wind down to Celebrate Christmas, over a thousand people wound up to become Family First members and supporters. “It’s been a huge success story. There has been a real enthusiasm among all of our members about the huge potential of Family First in NSW. It’s the right time for a new ‘family-based’ party.” Phil explained. “People right across NSW are showing their practical support for our new alternative party to Labor, Liberals and other Minor parties” – by joining us.
The NSW Electoral Commission requires a minimum of 750 members for a political party in NSW to become registered. Family First (NSW) membership has now exceeded that target, and is growing further with 800 members (to date). Because of this successful recruiting drive, Phil Lamb will submit the paper-work required to the Electoral Commission next week. “We are still looking for new members to strengthen our application though. What I have observed”, Phil said, “is that Family First is growing a new, fresh and younger support-base that is the future of this nation. There is a real optimism there – a real hope for a party that will fight for the most important unit of society – the family”.
Phil wants to hear from members and supporters interested in becoming voluntary workers in the NSW State Office, organisers of local electorate groups, or working on our State Council helping to formulate policy and growing local Family First Branches. His next goal is a branch in every town. Please email Phil at sdffnsw@optusnet.com.au
