Gordon Moyes Announces the 2010 Guest Speaker for NSW Parliamentary Prayer Luncheon 2 September 2010
Reverend the Hon. Dr Gordon Moyes AC MLC has announced, on behalf of the New South Wales Parliamentary Prayer Fellowship, the guest speaker for the 2010 Annual Luncheon, an event eagerly anticipated by the Christian community. “We are very pleased to announce this year’s speaker will be His Excellency the Honourable Tim Fischer AC, Australia’s Ambassador to the Holy See.”
“Mr Fischer is well known to Australians as a previous Leader of the National Party, and Deputy Prime Minister in the 1990s. He has held senior positions in many charitable organisations including the Royal Flying Doctor Service and received many honours nationally and internationally. We are thrilled that he is able to address this year’s Parliamentary Prayer Fellowship Luncheon, as he is deeply admired and known to be a wonderful and insightful speaker,” said Dr Moyes.
Dr Moyes explained, “The Parliamentary Prayer Fellowship is an apolitical group of Christian Members of New South Wales Parliament who meet during sitting weeks throughout the year to share in fellowship and to pray together for each others’ personal needs, as well as for God’s hand over Parliament.”
“Our annual luncheon is open to people of all backgrounds who wish to share a time of reflection and fellowship with us, including in past years several members of the Jewish and Muslim faiths, as well as many of the Protestant denominations, Catholics, Coptics, Assyrian and Greek Orthodox Churches. It is a wonderful, multicultural Christian gathering with the intention of sharing prayers and blessings on each other, the work of the parliament, and the state and people of New South Wales.”
“It is also a real encouragement for us to recognise, once again, our privileges and responsibilities in our parliamentary democracy. We have been holding this fellowship luncheon for many years and it has always been a deeply rewarding experience for those who attend. We look forward to welcoming our guests to share in prayer and reflection, and this year to hear our outstanding Guest Speaker, His Excellency the Honourable Tim Fischer AC.”
