Take care of the Carers

Political parties do not rush to support the carers in our community. Plenty of promises before the election very slow response with cash and support after the election.

I have had a fifty year commitment to helping people called upon to care for others. They may be children, other peoples’ children, disabled people, lonely people, ill people, dependent people, aged and infirm people, mentally ill, and drug and alcohol dependent people.

I knew that situation.

In our own home as a young teenager, my widowed mother, in spite of having to go out and work to support her family of five, also supported my very ill 14-year-old brother, who was dying of an incurable disease. We also took into our home a single lady who suffered greatly from epilepsy, and my old grandmother who was largely bedridden and suffering from dementia.

My mother was a carer, and she instilled into my life from teenage years a passion for caring for carers.

Consequently, I have fought for the rights of carers, and through thirty years of being the Chief Executive of Wesley Mission in Sydney, built over 500 centres of care for every kind of need possible; employed over 4000 full time paid staff to exercise their skills in caring; raised the money to pay them; and now for the last nine years have fought for carers in Parliament for proper Government recognition.

I don’t give empty promises. My record is in the official history of our nation, Hansard. Feel free to check out any of these links:

Who cares

My record speaks for itself.

One in seven people in Australia are carers for someone else. Your economic benefit to our nation through your sacrifice and hard work is valued at over $40 billion. NSW has the highest number of carers in Australia, and successive Governments ignore you!

The need is unprecedented. I have a track record that is not surpassed by anyone in Parliament or among candidates standing for election. As Parliamentary Leader of Family First, I am totally committed to you.

This election: Don’t reward Labor for their unfruitful years in Government. Don’t trust the Coalition because of broken promises. Instead – put your Family First!

REV HON DR GORDON MOYES AC MLC
