Focus on Family Values forums enabled us to examine and discuss significant societal issues by looking at them from a contemporary family perspective. We were pleased over the years to have gifted guest speakers from a wide range of professions speaking on an diverse range of issues. The themes we covered last year include:

Dr Moyes publishes three more books!

In the last few weeks Dr Moyes has seen four new books published by Strand.

Dr Moyes has some of his short stories in “Australian Stories of Hope and Joy” – this is the ninth in this amazingly successful series. He also has short stories in “Australian Stories of Faith”, “Aussie Stories for the Heart and Soul” and “Australian Stories for Women”.

This brings the total to number of authored or part-authored books by Dr Moyes to 61!

Most of the earlier books have been sold out, although his autobiography “Leaving a Legacy” is still available in some shops or available from the author.

How did Baptist churches come to be called “Baptist”?

There is some confusion among Baptists concerning their origins. There are several theories from the past two hundred years or so.

Some Baptist historians from the 1730s to the 1920s adhered to the succession of baptism (beginning with John the Baptist) by those properly baptised themselves.

Some say the origins lie with the European Anabaptists. Others say the Baptists began with certain English Separatists who had congregational polity and considered believers’ baptism alone to be valid according to scripture.

Certainly from 1641 a few Baptists in London, convinced that the biblical practice of immersion in water was the true form of baptism, renewed the practice of immersion in England. All agree this baptism was based on the baptism of John the Baptist. Continue reading
