Victory for Retirement Village Residents

In another embarrassing move, the State Government has been forced in to a humiliating backdown on changes to the Retirement Villages Amendment Bill set to be debated in the Upper House on Tuesday. Since the introduction of the Bill in June 2007, Rev the Hon. Dr Gordon Moyes AC MLC has been actively campaigning against the controversial amendment of the Bill which would transfer up to 50 percent of capital replacement costs onto retirement village residents.

Disadvantaged Schools key winner in NSW Mini-Budget

Despite all the doom and gloom with the announcement of the State’s Mini Budget, there were pockets of hope when the Rees Government announced a $20 million package to be spent on the Priority Action Schools Program. The NSW Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care has been forced to apologise for discriminating against a Killarney Vale man. Staff at the Department refused to help Jim Bond complete an application form to be a member of the NSW Disability Council.

Reverend Moyes Condemns Pink Cigarettes for Girls and Women

“October is the established month of International Breast Cancer Awareness, and the colour pink has been identified for years as the colour of the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. This disgraceful move by the tobacco industry to co-opt the timing, the colour and the feminine-oriented identity of breast cancer awareness, in order to promote a product that has been recently linked to breast cancer, is an extreme example of cynical marketing. This is a desperate and despicable action on the part of this tobacco company!”

Formal Apology First Step Towards Reconciliation

Upper House member Rev Dr Gordon Moyes has supported Prime Minister Rudd’s apology to the Stolen Generations as an important step towards reconciliation. “The Federal Government’s plan for a formal apology to the stolen generations – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who were removed from their families and communities as part of the assimilation policies of the governments of the day, is a welcome and long overdue move,” Dr Moyes said.
